Brainyap is a personal project for the development of a social media platform for university students. Brainyap will include all the typical features of a social media platform such as notifications, posting, private messaging, photos, blogs and classifieds. I am currently building this social media website out of my dorm room.

I am building Brainyap because just like many people my age I have grown sick and tired of the fakeness of mainstream social media. Social media is infested with bot accounts and it’s no longer possible to tell the difference between a human or a machine, its not social media if you’re spending most of your time talking to a chatbot. Brainyap will fill that market gap and bring social media back to its early roots by preventing bots from accessing the platform.

Brainyap will include end to end encryption for private messaging, meaning that even the site developer will not be able to view your private messages. Brainyap will also include a new privacy feature called the “secret word” allowing users to share secret words between each other to confirm that they are speaking to a human and not a chatbot, scammer or imposter impersonating someone.

Brainyap will be designed to mitigate issues with social media, such as bot accounts, censorship issues, online slander and cyber bullying. While it is nearly impossible to control human nature, Brainyap will take precautions to mitigate the negative impacts of social media while still providing an engaging platform.

Currently, Brainyap is in the testing stage, with a full release maybe expected by the end of 2026. I have included a link below for viewing the frontend of the platform.
